The rental industry has begun targeting the so-called ‘petfam’ (pet＋family) market. They are strengthening pet care modes by incorporating features that remove pet hair and odors from air purifiers as a basic function.
According to SK Magic on the 11th, the ‘2024 Core 360-degree Air Purifier 13-pyeong model’ released last month is equipped with an ‘All-in-One Care Filter’ that can remove 99.999% of ultrafine dust as small as 0.01㎛ (one-millionth of a meter) and pet hair. The microfiber pre-filter plays a role in removing pet hair. Additionally, by adding the detachable ‘Pet Double Care Filter,’ a pet-specific filter, it captures pet hair once more and intensively manages various harmful gases such as ammonia and acetaldehyde, which are major causes of pet odor. This also helps extend the lifespan of the main filter.
Earlier this year, Kyowon Wells launched the ‘Wells Air Garden Air Purifier,’ which applies a ‘Pet Care’ mode that focuses on managing pet hair and excrement odors. When the pet care mode is activated, it operates for 30 minutes with optimized settings to quickly absorb pet hair and dust on the floor, then automatically switches to auto mode. This takes into account the dust on the floor where pets breathe. Last month, through a strategic collaboration with the pet-friendly hotel ‘Kinok,’ Air Garden air purifiers were installed in all guest rooms, cafes, restaurants, and lobbies. This strategy aims to expand the market base by offering hygiene care solutions to pet hotels.
Coway’s ‘Noble Air Purifier 2’ is also equipped with a pet mode and pet filter specialized for pet lifestyles. The ‘My Pet Mode’ cleans fine dust quickly with about 2.3 times faster fan operation and changes in air flow compared to level 1. It creates airflow to lift downy dust, then cares for distant pet down and fine dust, purifying and circulating the entire space. Adding the pet filter removes up to 99% of harmful hydrogen sulfide gas, a cause of pet odor.
Chungho Nice offers the ‘Chungho Pet Air Purifier’ lineup. Its five-stage filtering system, consisting of a ‘Pet-specific filter,’ ‘Pre-filter,’ ‘Deodorization enhancement filter,’ ‘Ultrafine dust collection filter,’ and ‘Deodorization filter,’ removes pet odors and hair all at once. Pressing the pet mode button for 3 seconds locks all operation buttons, preventing product malfunction and allowing safe use in homes with pets.
The domestic petfam population is estimated to be about 15 million. An industry insider said, “Many customers come to check out pet functions, so it has become a basic feature that must be added,” and explained, “The pet filter also helps extend the lifespan of the existing main filter.”
