Busan City Takes First Step in Space Industry with Formation of 'Space Industry Alliance'

'Space Industry Alliance' Launch Ceremony at 11 AM on the 27th at Dongseo University Centum Campus

Signing of MOU - Keynote Speech by Professor Yoon Hyosang of KAIST - Launch Ceremony Performance

The city of Busan will hold an inauguration ceremony for the 'Space Industry Alliance' at 11 a.m. on the 27th at the Convention Hall of Dongseo University Centum Campus.

The event will be attended by over 100 people, including Mayor Park Hyungjoon, key local universities, related organizations, and company representatives. The program will begin with a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony, followed by a keynote speech by Professor Yoon Hyosang of KAIST, and a launch performance.

The 'Space Industry Alliance' serves as a collaborative platform among industry, academia, research institutes, and government, aiming to cooperate in various fields such as the development of space industry-related technologies, policy recommendations, and fostering outstanding talent to build a robust space industry ecosystem.

The goal is to strengthen the cooperative system by bringing together industry, academia, research institutes, and public institutions to establish a space industry ecosystem.

Starting with the launch of the 'Space Industry Alliance,' the city plans to focus on discovering projects that connect local industries and academia, as well as nurturing talent in the space industry over the medium and long term.

The city has already laid the groundwork for the space industry through various initiatives, including the 29th Emergency Economic Countermeasures Meeting in July 2022 under the theme of 'Fostering New Marine-Space Convergence Industries,' the production of the BusanSat satellite, and hosting the 2024 Committee on Space Research General Assembly (COSPAR2024).

The launch of the 'Space Industry Alliance' is expected to accelerate these efforts and play a crucial role in connecting not only Busan but also companies and institutions outside the region.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon stated, "The space industry is the key driving force of the 21st-century future economy. Through this 'Alliance,' we will actively support the diversification of local companies and their transition into space industry enterprises by fostering connections both within and outside the region." He added, "I hope that Busan can actively participate in the space industry by strengthening technological innovation, nurturing talent, and enhancing competitiveness in the global market."
