Changwon Special City, Transforming into the Center of Industrial Digital Transformation

Changwon National Industrial Complex Launches Digital Transformation Alliance for the Next 50 Years

The Industrial Digital Transformation (DX) Collaboration Support Center held the '2024 Gyeongnam Industrial DX Convergence Alliance Inauguration Ceremony' at the Changwon Convention Center on the 26th.


Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, together with Gyeongnam Province and Gimhae City, opened the region's first 'Industrial Digital Transformation (DX) Collaboration Support Center' at the Southeast Branch of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) in November last year. This project is based on the Industrial Digital Transformation Promotion Act, with the 'KETI Southeast Branch' designated as the dedicated institution (with 1.92 billion KRW in national funding). It serves as a comprehensive, customized platform for companies, focusing on key local industries such as defense and machinery.

Changwon Special City, Transforming into the Center of Industrial Digital Transformation On April 23, Mayor Hong Nampyo announced the 50-year future vision at a press conference for the Changwon National Industrial Complex.

The 'Gyeongnam Industrial DX Convergence Alliance,' operated by the Industrial Digital Transformation (DX) Collaboration Support Center, consists of more than 30 representatives and executives from local companies, over 10 university professors, and research staff from more than 10 research institutes. Together, they have formed six research groups to identify DX projects in five key local industries: smart machinery, digital, defense, robotics, and aerospace.


The Gyeongnam Industrial DX Convergence Alliance research groups conduct demand surveys and identify new projects in leading local industries, promote their commercialization, and play a role in strengthening and supporting corporate competitiveness through digital transformation (DX) involving industry, academia, research, and government.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than 50 officials from Gyeongnam Province, Changwon City, Gimhae City, the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, and Gyeongnam Technopark. The event included presentations on business plans for the DX project research groups and discussions on discovering new projects and commercialization strategies in the future.


Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "We will actively support the digital transformation of manufacturing companies within the national industrial complex to ensure the next 50 years of advancement for Changwon National Industrial Complex. Collaboration among related organizations is essential to secure the competitiveness of local core industries, and I sincerely congratulate the inauguration of the Gyeongnam Industrial DX Convergence Alliance, a platform for cooperation among industry, academia, research, and government."
