Merchant-Designed and Operated 'Mini Salon Program' Promotes Strengthening of Small Business Capabilities
Sustainable Local Content Production through Commercial District YouTube Channel Operation
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will accelerate the production of differentiated local content for the Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail local brand.
Last year, having been selected for the Seoul City Local Brand Commercial District Development Project, the aim is to highlight the unique characteristics and charm of the Gongneung-dong ‘Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail’ commercial district and to build a consensus among local residents and visitors.
First, they will recruit the 'Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail Local Brand Commercial District SNS Supporters.' The recruitment target is ‘Seoul residents’ proficient in using social networking services (SNS), with a total of 20 people being recruited: 10 for Naver Blog and 10 for Instagram.
The selected supporters will be responsible for creating and editing content to promote the commercial district. To support this, the district office will invite professional instructors to provide training on manuscript writing and will pay a modest manuscript fee for content production.
Additionally, to encourage participation, outstanding supporters will receive monthly incentives and a certificate of commendation from the district mayor upon completion of activities.
The application period is from September 13 to September 29, and detailed information can be found on the district website and the commercial district’s Instagram.
Next, to help promising small business owners grow into local brands, the 'Mini Salon Program' will be supported. The Mini Salon is a capacity-building program designed to strengthen the experiential elements of the commercial district and foster its growth into an attractive area with enjoyable activities, characterized by being planned and operated directly by merchants.
Small business owners will conduct various programs in a one-day class format at their stores, such as ▲new menu tasting sessions ▲demonstrations ▲sharing startup know-how, etc. Furthermore, a ‘collaboration program’ jointly planned and operated by small business owners will be supported to enhance the commercial district’s self-sustainability.
Lastly, the district will produce 'commercial district specialized local goods' to promote the Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail commercial district. They plan to create diverse and distinctive goods reflecting the characteristics of the commercial district, centered around the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail where visitors can enjoy walks, incorporating the results of a prior preference survey, to increase both internal and external recognition and strengthen the commercial district’s competitiveness.
Meanwhile, the district is actively promoting various local brands within the commercial district by producing video content such as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, centered on operating the YouTube channel ‘Gongneung-dong Merchants,’ which tells the stories of growth, challenges, failures, and overcoming by small business owners in Gongneung-dong. These videos honestly convey the local stories and charms of individual stores, receiving much positive response.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We will nurture a local brand unique to Gongneung-dong by discovering and developing diverse and continuously producible local content,” adding, “We will spare no support not only for the sustainable growth of the Gongneung-dong commercial district but also for revitalizing the local economy including neighboring commercial districts.”
