Investigation Conclusion on Mrs. Kim Expected by the End of This Month
The prosecution is reportedly strongly considering holding an investigative review committee on the 24th to deliberate whether to indict Pastor Choi Jaeyoung, who handed a luxury bag to First Lady Kim Geon-hee.
According to the legal community on the 11th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office investigative review committee has tentatively decided to convene a current affairs committee on the 24th and is reaching out to randomly selected review committee members to confirm their attendance. The review committee concerning Pastor Choi will discuss whether there is a need to indict him on charges including violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, trespassing, obstruction of official duties by deception, and defamation.

The prosecution previously decided to make a final decision on First Lady Kim after observing the conclusion of the review committee regarding Pastor Choi. Accordingly, the investigation conclusion on First Lady Kim is expected to be announced around the end of this month.
If this proceeds as planned, Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, whose term expires on the 15th, will effectively retire without having resolved the case involving First Lady Kim during his tenure. Earlier, on the 6th, the review committee unanimously recommended non-prosecution after examining whether to indict First Lady Kim on six charges including violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, bribery, mediation of bribery, violation of the Attorney-at-Law Act, abuse of authority, and evidence tampering.
It was anticipated that the case against First Lady Kim would be closed with a non-prosecution disposition this week before Prosecutor General Lee’s term ended; however, on the 9th, the review committee agenda separately requested by Pastor Choi was approved by the prosecution citizen committee.
