Yongin City-Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology Operate 2nd Semester of 'Advanced Semiconductor Course'

"Goal of Building Personal Networks and Enhancing Professional Competencies"

Gyeonggi-do Yongin City announced on the 6th that it will jointly operate the 2nd semester of the 'Semiconductor Advanced Course' with Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST).

The Semiconductor Advanced Course is based on the 'Semiconductor Education and Industry-Academia Hub Establishment Agreement' signed by the city and UNIST in November last year to cultivate semiconductor specialists.

The 2nd semester students will take lectures on semiconductor technology trends, leadership and management strategies, and arts and liberal arts every Thursday for 12 weeks. At the entrance ceremony held on the 5th, about 30 people including Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, Park Jong-rae, President of UNIST, graduates of the 1st advanced course, and students of the 2nd semester attended.

Executives from semiconductor-related companies, research institutions, and government agencies are participating in this course. The city expects that the students will form human networks through the advanced course and strengthen their capabilities for talent development and industrial advancement.

In particular, the course included a presentation assignment on the 'Yongin Semiconductor Specialized Complex Utilization Strategy,' which the city explained helped increase understanding of Yongin City's semiconductor-related policies.

Mayor Lee said, "It is the first model in Korea for a local government and a university to open an advanced course to develop the semiconductor industry and produce excellent talent," adding, "This course will be an opportunity to learn and share the latest trends in the semiconductor industry, technology trends, and corporate management methods."

President Park also said, "I hope that through education conducted by the top experts in the semiconductor field, students will exchange information and gain opportunities for business growth and new market creation."

Meanwhile, Yongin City is expanding policies for nurturing talent related to the semiconductor industry through support for UNIST, Myongji University's semiconductor specialized university project, and the establishment of Yongin Semiconductor High School.
