Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok Meets Culture Minister to Convey Support of 170,000 for Kukkiwon Relocation to Dobong-gu

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) visited the National Assembly in Yeouido on September 3rd and met with Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to deliver a petition urging the relocation of Kukkiwon to Dobong-gu.


The delivery ceremony was attended by Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, co-chairpersons of the petition promotion committee, and Kim Jae-seop, National Assembly member for Dobong-gap.


On this day, Mayor Oh explained the purpose of the petition campaign and its progress to Minister Yoo In-chon and expressed the district’s strong determination to attract Kukkiwon. He also requested a prompt policy decision from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism regarding the relocation of Kukkiwon.


Mayor Oh Eon-seok stated, “The petition contains the wishes of the residents for the relocation of Kukkiwon to Dobong-gu,” and added, “We expect the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to cooperate on current issues such as the construction costs of Kukkiwon.”


In response, Minister Yoo In-chon said, “The relocation of Kukkiwon is an important matter for the development of local culture and sports. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will actively cooperate on this issue.”


Earlier, from July 22 to August 23, the district, together with the Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Petition Promotion Committee (co-chairpersons Park Sang-yong and Kim Seong-pil), conducted a district-wide petition campaign urging the relocation of Kukkiwon to Dobong-gu. A total of 168,282 people participated in the petition, surpassing the initial target of 100,000.


The district plans to reaffirm its determination for the relocation of Kukkiwon to Dobong-gu once again. On September 21, it will hold the “Kukkiwon Dobong-gu Relocation Prayer Walking Event” to raise awareness both internally and externally about the necessity and importance of relocating Kukkiwon together with the residents.
