"‘Ajussi ga Geondeuryeo’ Younger Sister's Words Lead to Assailant Assault
Gwangju District Court Convicts 20s Older Brother"
The court sentenced a man in his 20s to a suspended fine for assaulting the perpetrator who forcibly molested his younger sister.
On the 29th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Presiding Judge Go Sang-young) announced that it sentenced A (27), who was charged with injury, to a fine of 1 million won with a two-year suspension. A is accused of assaulting a man in his 40s, B, by grabbing him by the collar and knocking him down at a pub in Seo-gu, Gwangju, on August 5 last year, causing injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment.
It is known that on the day of the incident, A received a call from his younger sister saying, "An uncle is touching and harassing me," and went to the pub to subdue B.
The court explained the sentencing by stating, "We considered that the crime occurred in the process of trying to protect the younger sister who was a victim of forcible molestation."
Meanwhile, according to Article 298 of the Criminal Act, the crime of forcible molestation is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine of up to 15 million won. Even if the act does not reach the level of assault or intimidation, if the victim feels fear due to the harm threatened and the offender touched the victim's body, it can be considered forcible molestation.
