Damage of 162.4 Billion Won... 440.3 Billion Won to Be Invested in Restoration
Chungnam Province will provide all disaster relief funds for the heavy rain damage in July before the Chuseok holiday.
According to the province on the 29th, more than 400mm of rain fell in Seocheon, Nonsan, and other areas in July, resulting in four casualties and damage amounting to 162.4 billion KRW.
The province plans to invest a total of 440.3 billion KRW, including 324 billion KRW in national funds and 116.3 billion KRW in provincial and municipal funds, to carry out recovery projects.
A total of 1,626 sites are subject to disaster recovery projects, with eight locations requiring large-scale improvement and restoration to be prioritized, followed by sequential progress at the remaining sites.
The government disaster relief funds include 40.6 billion KRW for private facilities and 30.7 billion KRW for the agricultural sector, with some amounts already paid in advance and the remainder scheduled to be paid before Chuseok.
For 1,083 households with damaged homes in special disaster areas, 3.4 billion KRW in disaster relief funds and a total of 10.9 billion KRW including consolation payments will be provided. For 1,008 affected small business owners, a total of 4.69 billion KRW will be provided, including 3 million KRW in disaster relief funds and 2 million KRW from the provincial disaster relief fund.
In particular, 11 billion KRW in special support will be provided to the four cities and counties of Nonsan, Geumsan, Buyeo, and Seocheon, which have been declared special disaster areas, as well as to farms in Misan and Jusan in Boryeong and Myeoncheon-myeon in Dangjin.
For insured crops and those not eligible for insurance, support will be provided at the level of income compensation, while farms without insurance will receive support at 50% of the insurance coverage level. However, for insured farms awaiting insurance payouts and those requiring on-site verification of completed restoration, payments will be made after final confirmation by the city or county.
Shin Dongheon, Director of the Provincial Autonomous Safety Office, stated, "Twelve households, totaling 25 people, have still not been able to return home due to the heavy rain in July. We will focus administrative efforts so that flood victims can return to their daily lives as soon as possible, and ensure that disaster relief and special support funds are paid before the Chuseok holiday."
