Launch of 'POSCO Venture Support Group' Inauguration Ceremony on the 28th
'Jeonnam Startup Forum' Held on the 29th
Strengthening Systematic Support for Local Venture Companies
POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Dong-ryeol) has embarked on creating a venture-friendly ecosystem in the Jeonnam region to realize coexistence with the local community and contribute to revitalizing the regional economy.
On the 28th, POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks held the launch ceremony of the ‘POSCO Venture Support Group’ at Gwangyang City Hall to provide technical support to small and venture companies in Gwangyang and the Jeonnam region. Following this, on the 29th, the ‘3rd Jeonnam Startup Forum’ was held, marking the full-scale operation of ‘Gwangyang Venture Valley,’ POSCO’s systematic support program for local venture companies.
‘Gwangyang Venture Valley’ is POSCO’s unique venture support program aimed at revitalizing venture startups and creating a startup ecosystem in the Jeonnam region based on industry-academia-research cooperation.
The ‘POSCO Venture Support Group,’ launched at the ceremony, will provide systematic technical support to small and venture companies in Gwangyang and the Jeonnam region, along with customized consulting covering the entire process from production to sales. This will support the sustainable growth of venture companies and contribute to job creation and regional economic revitalization.
The event was attended by about 50 people, including Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang; Jeong Sang-gyeong, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks; Ko Gwan-bong, Head of POSCO Shared Growth Group; Cheon Myeong-sik, CEO of POSCO Venture Support Group (CEO of Pyvex); and representatives of Gwangyang venture companies.
The POSCO Venture Support Group is composed of master’s and doctoral-level researchers from POSCO and the Pohang Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST). Over 50 experts in various research fields such as △smart factory △measurement technology △environmental energy △metal and lightweight materials will transfer know-how to solve technical problems of venture companies and enhance their technological and product competitiveness.
The POSCO Venture Support Group will select target companies among venture companies in Gwangyang City and small and medium enterprises within the national industrial complex, then provide technical and consulting support from September to November. Based on this, a performance sharing meeting is planned at the end of the year.
In addition, on the 29th, POSCO will hold the ‘3rd Jeonnam Startup Forum’ at the conference hall of Suncheon National University.
A representative of Gwangyang Steelworks said, “We will accelerate the establishment of Gwangyang Venture Valley through activities such as the POSCO Venture Support Group, and contribute to gathering the support capabilities of the public, private, and academic sectors so that local ventures and startups can grow into leading players in the regional economy.”
