Proposal for Training Convergent Talent for K-Defense Industry Linked to Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex
Konyang University in Chungnam has been finally selected for the Ministry of Education's 'Glocal University 30' project.
On the 28th, the Ministry of Education announced the selection of 17 universities as this year's Glocal Universities. Konyang University was the only university selected from the Chungcheong region, securing 100 billion KRW in national funding.
The Ministry of Education will designate 30 Glocal Universities to lead innovation in regions at risk of decline, providing 100 billion KRW in support over five years. From last year to this year, 20 universities have been selected, and an additional 10 universities are expected to be designated next year.
Konyang University succeeded in being designated by proposing the cultivation of convergent talent for the K-Defense Industry in connection with the Nonsan National Defense Industrial Complex and the establishment of a defense industry-academia-research ecosystem.
The Chungnam Provincial Government explained that after the preliminary designation of Glocal University, a dedicated team was formed under the leadership of Vice Governor Kim Ki-young to devote all efforts to preparing a feasible action plan.
President Kim Yongha stated, "I believe the Glocal University 30 designation was achieved together with Nonsan City," and added, "We will strive to make Chungnam an even better place to live."
Vice Governor Kim said, "Chungnam has the second highest number of universities nationwide, excluding the Seoul metropolitan area, so at least three universities should be designated as Glocal Universities." He continued, "We will form a university-industry-academia-research council to support the operation of Glocal Universities and will provide full support so that other universities can also be designated."
