A video has been released showing a man vandalizing a parked car with 'door dings' and spitting on it.
On the 27th episode of JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' (Incident Chief), the story of car owner Mr. A, who recently experienced both 'door dings' and a 'spit attack' in a parking lot of a building in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, was introduced. 'Door ding' refers to the act of scratching a parked car while opening or closing a car door.
In the video released by Mr. A, a man squeezes between parked cars. The man opens the driver's door wide but hits the passenger door of the adjacent car. After failing to get into the driver's seat, the man opens the passenger door and gets into the vehicle. He then rolls down the window, spits on the neighboring car, and runs away, all captured clearly on camera.
The informant, Mr. A, stated, "While I was at the hospital, I found traces of someone spitting on my car. Later, when I parked in an open space and inspected it, I also found scratches." After reviewing the black box footage, Mr. A immediately reported the man to the police. He expressed his frustration, saying, "I parked my car properly within the parking lines, but the man seemed upset that I parked next to him and deliberately opened the door wide to cause a door ding and even spat on my car."
Netizens' reactions to the story were mixed. Some criticized Mr. A for 'inconsiderate parking.' They commented, "How are you supposed to get in with parking like that?", "If it were me, I might have spat too," "The informant parked incorrectly from the start," "What's there to be proud of about parking lines?" and "I hate such inconsiderate parking the most." On the other hand, some said, "No matter what, spitting after door dinging is crossing the line," "Regardless of the reason, that behavior is 100% wrong," and "Spitting is really absurd."
Meanwhile, according to the Road Traffic Act, damaging a vehicle parked or stopped in a 'non-road' area such as an apartment underground parking lot and leaving without leaving contact information can result in a fine of up to 200,000 KRW.
