On the 28th, Judge Kim Yu-rang of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 14 sentenced Park (28), who was detained and indicted on charges of editing and distributing false videos under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, to five years in prison. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs and was banned from working in facilities related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities for five years.

The court stated, “The content of the false videos is so disgusting that it is difficult for ordinary people to even speak of,” and added, “The anonymity and convenience were exploited to turn the videos into tools for stress relief without feeling shame or embarrassment.” It further noted, “The everyday act of posting on social media (SNS) to leave records is manipulated as a target of criminal acts, making it impossible to comprehend the sexual humiliation the victims would feel.”

The court also said, “After the indictment, agreements were reached with five victims and criminal deposits were made for six others, but there remain unidentified victims whose personal information is unknown,” and added, “Although the defendant claimed the crimes were committed to relieve stress from studies, medical treatment, and romantic relationships, considering the number of videos and the relationship with the victims, the nature of the crime is severe.”

Park was brought to trial in May on charges of producing over 400 false videos and distributing more than 1,700 from July 2020 to April this year. Investigations revealed that he contacted the ringleader, Park (40), a Seoul National University graduate, via online messenger and together created and distributed obscene materials targeting dozens of women. It was revealed that the Park sentenced on this day is not a Seoul National University graduate.

During the final prosecution hearing, the prosecution demanded a 10-year prison sentence for Park. In his final statement, Park pleaded for leniency, saying, “I apologize to the victims who suffered and am currently in the process of reaching agreements.” He also submitted letters of remorse to the court nine times in total.

The ‘Seoul National University Nth Room’ case involves Park, a Seoul National University alumnus, and Kang (31), who synthesized and distributed obscene materials using photos of dozens of female university alumni via Telegram. Four people, including another Seoul National University graduate Han, have been indicted in connection with this case, and all are being tried at the Seoul Central District Court.
