Consumer Agency Initiates Collective Dispute Resolution Procedure for T-Mef Gift Card Damages

Happy Money Gift Certificates Eligible for Application Regardless of Purchase Location

The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 16th that it will also initiate the group dispute mediation application process for consumer damages related to gift certificates caused by the settlement delay incident involving TMON and WEMAKEPRICE. The group dispute mediation application will begin on the 19th.

The eligible applicants are ▲ consumers who purchased gift certificates, including gifticons, from TMON and WEMAKEPRICE and requested withdrawal of subscription (including contract cancellation) but were refused a refund ▲ consumers who demanded a refund of the remaining balance of gift certificates after usage was suspended at affiliated stores but were denied. However, Happy Money gift certificates, which are currently unusable, will be included in the application regardless of the place of purchase.

Consumers can apply to participate in the group dispute mediation through the Korea Consumer Agency website from the 19th to the 27th of this month.

If the contracted items are not travel, accommodation, airline tickets, or gift certificates, or if the gift certificates are not included in this group dispute mediation application, consumer counseling and damage relief procedures will proceed as usual through the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center.

The Korea Consumer Agency has initiated the group dispute mediation process for gift certificates purchased from TMON and WEMAKEPRICE (Timep) due to the significant consumer damages involved. From July 22 to August 13, the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center received 1,322 consumer counseling cases related to Timep gift certificates. This is the second highest number of consultations after travel and accommodation.

Previously, the Korea Consumer Agency established a dedicated response team for the Timep incident and recruited participants for group dispute mediation regarding travel, accommodation, and airline tickets. A total of 9,028 people applied for that group dispute mediation.

An official from the Korea Consumer Agency urged, "Consumers who wish to apply for group dispute mediation should refer to the recruitment guidelines and participate in the mediation application within the application period."
