Typhoon 'Ampil' Approaches Japan... Numerous Flight Cancellations to Tokyo on the 16th

The 7th typhoon of the season, 'Ampil,' is approaching the Japanese archipelago, causing more than 20 flights scheduled to depart from South Korea to Tokyo, Japan on the 16th of this month to be canceled en masse.

According to the aviation industry on the 15th, Korean Air announced the cancellation of 6 flights from domestic airports to Tokyo Narita and Haneda airports from noon on the 16th to 3 a.m. on the 17th due to the impact of Typhoon Ampil. Additionally, 4 flights bound for Tokyo on the 16th are expected to be delayed.


A Korean Air official stated, "We have communicated this information through individual customer notifications and our website," adding, "For passengers inconvenienced by cancellations, we plan to minimize discomfort by offering delayed flights and aircraft changes during periods unaffected by the typhoon."


Asiana Airlines also announced the cancellation of 6 flights and delays of 2 flights departing domestically for Tokyo on the 16th.


Jeju Air announced the cancellation of 5 flights scheduled to depart from Incheon and Busan to Tokyo on the 16th.


Eastar Jet also informed about the cancellation of 1 flight to Tokyo on the same day, with cancellations continuing among low-cost carriers (LCCs).


An aviation industry official urged, "Customers planning to fly to Tokyo tomorrow should be sure to check for cancellations and delays."


Japanese media forecast that Typhoon Ampil is likely to pass through the Kanto region, including the Tokyo metropolitan area, and the Tohoku region in northeastern Honshu between the 16th and 17th.
