In July, a business agreement was signed with Seoul Nambu Office of Education Support... Achieved success in public project selection through continuous collaboration... Utilizing donated land to build educational, cultural, sports, and welfare facilities accessible to students and local residents of all generations... Total floor area of 4,730㎡... Establishing an indoor swimming pool for 'survival swimming' education linked with school education and care programs
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it has been selected for the Ministry of Education's '2024 School Complex Facility 2nd Public Contest' project, accelerating the construction of a school complex facility befitting the status of Yeongdeungpo-gu as a future education city.
A school complex facility is a multi-generational integrated space where students and local residents of all ages can enjoy, equipped with sports and educational facilities as welfare amenities. Through this contest, the Ministry of Education provides budget support ranging from 20% to a maximum of 50% of the total project cost, considering each local government's financial independence.
Accordingly, the district will create the 'Shingil 5 District School Complex Facility (tentative name)' in the area of 4961 Shingil-dong through this contest project. This facility is planned to be built with 2 basement floors and 3 above-ground floors, covering a total area of 4,730㎡ (approximately 1,400 pyeong).
The site at 4961 Shingil-dong, where the facility will be located, was land donated in 2020. The district, after various attempts to provide facilities for residents, decided to establish a school complex facility as a multi-generational integrated space accessible to all age groups.
The site is adjacent to nearby bus stops and subway stations, making transportation access convenient. Due to nearby redevelopment projects, the resident and school-age populations are increasing. However, public educational and sports facilities around the site are insufficient, leading to continuous demands from residents for the construction of cultural and sports facilities.
The district plans to reflect these regional characteristics and residents' needs by creating program rooms and multipurpose rooms that can link and provide indoor gymnasium, swimming pool, and care education, establishing a community hub space freely accessible to all age groups.
In particular, the indoor swimming pool where 'survival swimming' can be learned will utilize the underground area of the adjacent children's park (site area 1,981㎡) to overcome the limited site area, providing residents with a wider and more comfortable environment.
Additionally, the district strengthened cooperation with external organizations to ensure smooth project progress. To secure the budget required for large-scale facility construction, it actively participated in national and city government public contests, securing a significant portion of the project cost, and pledged continuous mutual cooperation for facility construction through a business agreement with the Seoul Southern Education Support Office.
The district will begin preliminary procedures such as starting the service related to the revision of the redevelopment promotion district in August this year and conducting prior review of the Seoul public architecture project plan. The goal is to hold a design contest in 2026, start construction in 2027, and complete the project by December 2028.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "With the selection in this contest, we have secured project funds to build a school complex facility that benefits both students and local residents more stably. We will continue to do our best to realize Yeongdeungpo-gu as a future education city through solid and speedy project implementation."
