Concerns of Evidence Tampering and Flight Risk
Cyber Rekka Karakula (real name Lee Se-wook), who had been advocating for the implementation of justice, was arrested on charges of aiding and abetting extortion against YouTuber Jjuyang. Karakula pleaded innocence, saying, "I stake my two sons."
On the afternoon of the 2nd, Song Baek-hyun, the presiding judge in charge of warrants at Suwon District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for Karakula, who is accused of aiding and abetting extortion, and issued an arrest warrant. This was due to concerns over evidence tampering and flight risk. In addition to the charge of aiding and abetting Jujeyeok's extortion against Jjuyang, Karakula was also under investigation for conspiring with Jujeyeok to extort 52 million won from another internet broadcasting host (BJ).
Choi, a lawyer who faces charges of directly extorting Jjuyang, aiding and abetting Jujeyeok's extortion against Jjuyang, and coercion against A (deceased), Jjuyang's ex-boyfriend and agency CEO, was also subject to a pre-arrest warrant request along with Karakula but avoided detention. Judge Song ruled, "There is room for dispute regarding the establishment of the crime, the risk of evidence tampering is low, and it is difficult to recognize the reasons or necessity for detention at this stage." Choi, who represented A legally, was identified as the informant who provided Jujeyeok with Jjuyang's past information.
This investigation began last month when Jjuyang filed a complaint with the prosecution, claiming, "I was afraid of Choi's retaliation, so I signed a torture contract and paid 23 million won." During the investigation, the prosecution also uncovered charges against Karakula.
Additionally, Karakula is accused of extorting tens of millions of won from BJ Sutro, who was arrested for a cryptocurrency scam, under the condition of suppressing the exposure of the incident. He is also suspected of spreading false information that basketball player Heo Woong's ex-girlfriend was from the entertainment industry. Furthermore, evidence was found that he shared illegal recordings and even engaged in prostitution in the past. Amid the controversy, he made videos on his channel 'Karakula Media' private or deleted them and ceased his activities.
