According to the ?lys?e Palace, President Macron sent this letter to President Biden on the same day. In the letter, Macron mentioned commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings together last June and emphasized, "I hope the spirit of partnership across the Atlantic will continue to lead the historic relationship between our two countries." President Biden made his first state visit to France since taking office at that time.

On the same day, at a reception for foreign journalists covering the Olympics held at the ?lys?e Palace, President Macron responded to a related question from a reporter of the U.S. internet media Axios, saying, "It has been a fortune for the United States to have him (Biden) and his team over the past few years." He expressed, "I have great respect for President Biden and the work he has done," and empathized, "I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for him and his family."

Furthermore, President Macron expressed hope that Americans would follow France's precedent of rejecting far-right candidates in the upcoming election. He stated, "What democracy needs is more respect for everyone," urging society as a whole to reject extremism and to come together to jointly address global issues such as the climate crisis and war.
