The government announced on the 16th that it will prioritize paying half of the estimated insurance compensation to farms affected by the recent heavy rain starting from the 18th.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is conducting on-site inspections and response efforts led by officials, focusing on the Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, and Jeonbuk regions affected by the heavy rain. At the same time, it is urgently supporting damage assessments to ensure that farms enrolled in crop disaster insurance can receive their insurance payments quickly.
Damage assessment personnel totaling 1,800 (with an additional 1,000 reserve personnel) have been deployed to the heavy rain-affected areas to conduct damage assessments within three days of reports. As of the 14th, investigations have been completed for approximately 23,000 cases, accounting for about 86% of the reported heavy rain damage cases. Notably, the investigation rate for horticultural facilities reached 99% as of the 14th of this month. For farms applying for advance insurance payments, 50% of the estimated insurance compensation will be paid starting from the 18th.
Additionally, local governments are being encouraged to conduct damage surveys to provide disaster relief funds such as pesticide costs and green onion costs to stabilize the livelihoods of affected farms and support the resumption of farming activities. Farms with severe damage may also receive additional support such as living expense aid and interest support on policy funds.
Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stated, "We will make every effort to ensure the swift return of farmers affected by this heavy rain to their agricultural sites." She added, "Strong and heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected again on the 17th, mainly in the central region, so prompt emergency restoration and thorough preemptive measures are necessary to prevent further damage."
