Busan Office of Education Launches School Violence Prevention Education with Student Participation

'Visiting School Violence Prevention Concert' Held at 25 Schools

Interactive Play... Fostering Empathy and Building a Nonviolent Culture in Schools

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will operate a student-participatory, on-site school violence prevention education program at 25 elementary, middle, and high schools until the 25th.

This program aims to prevent school violence, which has recently been increasing in forms such as cyberbullying and deepfake, by offering performances and role-playing experiences to foster a non-violent culture within schools.

The Office of Education has structured the program into three parts: the "On-site School Violence Prevention Concert," "WeHelp Square," and "WeHelp Experiential Theater."

The "On-site School Violence Prevention Concert" will be held at 10 elementary and middle schools and will include recreation, performance shows, and a relay support concert.

"WeHelp Square," targeting six elementary and middle schools, consists of prevention education using real cases of school violence, special lectures on building relationships, and cultural performances. "WeHelp Experiential Theater," targeting nine elementary, middle, and high schools, includes activities to raise awareness of the seriousness of school violence, situational role-play, and conflict resolution education.

The Office of Education plans to focus the program's operation from the end of the first semester's final exams until the summer vacation to maximize educational effectiveness. However, schools wishing to participate can apply until November.

An official from the Busan Office of Education stated that, by completely departing from the traditional lecture format and allowing students to participate and enjoy the activities together, this program is expected to provide clues to resolving school violence.

Busan Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo said, "Education conducted in a participatory manner will provide students with opportunities to communicate and empathize with one another, helping them recognize the seriousness of school violence," and added, "I hope this program will greatly contribute to raising awareness and interest in school violence prevention."
