Broadcaster Jung Joon-ha revealed a 'dine-and-dash' incident that occurred at the restaurant he operates.

At the time, Jung Joon-ha posted, "Why are there so many people running away after drinking these days?"

Regarding the post, Jung said, "I didn't expect it to become news," adding, "If I really wanted it to be news, I would have posted it on Instagram or X (formerly Twitter), but the thread has few followers and just started, so I posted it casually."

He said, "That day, someone who was really kind suddenly ran away, and since I was running a business at night, I got angry," but emphasized, "People called asking 'Who ran away like that?' but actually, only a small portion of customers did a dine-and-dash. There are many people who really appreciate visiting here."

He continued, "It's been three months since we opened, and many fans come to see my face. Many come from Geoje-do, Tongyeong, and other places," adding, "I'm very thankful, and these days, there are even more things to be grateful for."

Jung Joon-ha recently opened and is operating a sashimi restaurant in Gangnam. Previously, he ran a skewer specialty restaurant in Apgujeong for six years before changing the business type last October.

Regarding this, Jung said, "There is something to correct. The skewer restaurant in Apgujeong did not go out of business," clarifying, "Strangely, news keeps saying it closed, but it did not. In fact, it was renewed and is operating under a different brand."

Lastly, Jung announced, "Starting in the second half of the year, I plan to take on one or two new fixed variety shows," and added, "I will share many good news, so please look forward to it," hinting at his broadcasting activities.

Meanwhile, recently, self-employed business owners have been struggling with a series of 'dine-and-dash' incidents.

According to the National Police Agency's report on dine-and-dash and fare evasion cases, the numbers were 116,496 in 2019, 105,546 in 2020, and 65,217 in 2021, showing a decrease due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but surged to 94,752 in 2022.

Under current law, leaving without paying for food is considered dine-and-dash and can be punished with fines, detention, or penalties of up to 100,000 KRW. If habitual or intentional, it can be prosecuted as fraud. The statutory penalty for fraud is imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine of up to 20 million KRW.
