Choi Su-yeon, Naver CEO, Attends National Assembly
"Doing Our Best for Lasting Cooperation Between Korean and Japanese Companies"
Japan's Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications announced on the 2nd that regarding the report submitted by Line Yahoo, "We will review the content from the perspective of protecting user interests and take additional measures if necessary."
On the same day, Takeaki Matsumoto, Japan's Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, "We will thoroughly investigate (the report content) from the perspective of preventing recurrence."
In the report submitted to Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications the previous day, Line Yahoo stated, "We requested a review of the capital relationship with the parent company A Holdings from SoftBank and Naver, who are shareholders of this company (A Holdings), but currently both companies have reached the understanding that short-term capital movement is difficult."
Additionally, they conveyed that the network separation from Naver will be completed by March 2026, nine months earlier than originally planned, and that outsourcing of work to Naver and Naver Cloud will be terminated by next year.
This report is a response to the administrative guidance issued twice by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in March and April this year concerning the personal information leakage incident involving the messenger Line that occurred in November last year.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Suyeon Choi, CEO of Naver, appeared as a witness at the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee (STIBC) plenary session and said, "We will do our best to ensure that Line Yahoo remains a symbol of cooperation between Korean and Japanese companies." Although it is difficult to disclose mid- to long-term strategies, the position is that they will not proceed with the sale of Line Yahoo shares in the short term.
