YouTuber Distributing 'Kim Young-ho Minister Hearing Splicing' Sent to Prosecution

Manipulation of Video Asking "Dokdo Is Our Land"

A YouTuber who spread a fake news video by piecing together Minister of Unification Kim Young-ho's responses from his confirmation hearing has been handed over to the prosecution.

On the 1st, the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it had sent the YouTuber 'Jjalbeun News' to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention on the 17th of last month on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation).

The YouTuber is accused of editing and posting online a video that made it appear as if Minister Kim, during his confirmation hearing held on July 21 of last year, responded to a question from Park Hong-geun, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, asking "Is Dokdo our territory?" with "I cannot say that."

The People Power Party's Media Legal Team filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in August of the same year, stating that "it was confirmed that this was not an individual's accidental deviation but a deliberate and organized crime."
