"U.S. China Policy is Bipartisan... Strategic Competition Will Continue"
Within China, there is a response that regardless of whether President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump becomes president, there will be little impact on China.
Hu Xijin, a Chinese state-affiliated commentator and former editor of the Global Times, claimed this in a Global Times column on the 29th, stating, "Currently, the U.S. policy toward China has bipartisan support from both the Democrats and Republicans." He added, "So let's just enjoy the U.S. election as entertainment."
Regarding the first TV debate between President Biden and former President Trump, he evaluated, "The Democrats fell into panic, and trust in Biden began to waver."
The Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) also published similar analyses from Chinese experts in an article titled "China faces a no-win scenario regardless of who wins the debate."
Both President Biden and former President Trump are expected to continue strategic competition with China. Diao Daming, a professor at the School of International Relations at Renmin University, said, "This election will not change the domestic and international issues the U.S. faces, nor will it alter the strategic direction the U.S. has already shown toward China."
Sun Chenghao, a researcher at the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, also pointed out, "Within the broader framework of strategic competition with China, the two candidates differ only in the techniques or tactics of how to implement this strategy." He added, "From China's perspective, the outcome is the same regardless of who wins," and "Harmful competition will continue, and there is no clear preference or significant difference between Biden and Trump."
