Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is installing and operating a memorial altar to honor the victims of the factory fire in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Considering the characteristics of the area, which has many industrial complexes and migrant workers, Gwangsan-gu decided to create a memorial space to foster a mourning atmosphere for the victims of the accident.
The memorial altar was set up on the afternoon of the 26th at the entrance of the first floor of the district office. Anyone, including citizens, workers, and visitors to the district office, can pay their respects and express their condolences to the victims.
After the installation, Park Byung-gyu, the head of Gwangsan-gu, visited the memorial altar with representatives of local industrial complex companies, offering flowers and incense to express their condolences.
Park Byung-gyu said, “A tragic accident has occurred again, taking the precious lives of many workers in workplaces that should be the safest,” adding, “As the head of the local government responsible for protecting the lives and safety of citizens and workers, I feel sorry and heavy-hearted.”
He continued, “We will strengthen efforts to prevent industrial accidents and ensure workplace safety so that such tragedies do not happen again,” and “I pray for the repose of all the victims.”
Gwangsan-gu plans to operate the memorial altar for 10 days until July 5.
Meanwhile, on the previous day, Gwangsan-gu sent notification messages to 2,619 companies located in the industrial complex, including 22 local battery manufacturers, urging thorough safety inspections and prevention of industrial accidents.
Gwangsan-gu will promote safety and health education for company managers and conduct safety inspections for small and medium-sized workplaces to raise safety awareness among local companies and create a safe working environment.
