UNIST Appoints Park Jongrae, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, as 5th President

Board Meeting to Be Held at Seoul EL Tower on 26th, New President to Be Appointed

Park Jongrae, Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University, has been appointed as the 5th President of UNIST.

UNIST Appoints Park Jongrae, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, as 5th President Professor Jongnae Park, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University, appointed as the new president of UNIST.

On the afternoon of the 26th, UNIST held its 40th extraordinary board meeting (Chairman Song Jaeho) at the L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, and appointed Professor Emeritus Park Jongrae of Seoul National University as the next president.


The appointment will be finalized after the consent of the Minister of Education and approval from the Minister of Science and ICT, with a four-year term beginning from the date of approval.


Professor Emeritus Park has served as CEO of Seoul National University Holdings and as Chair of the Infrastructure Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Advisory Council. He is recognized as an international expert in materials research, having served as an editorial board member of the international journal CARBON and as President of the Asian Carbon Society Council.


Since the second half of last year, UNIST has been proceeding with the selection process for the next president in accordance with regulations. In this board meeting, Professor Park Jongrae was chosen as the right person to lead UNIST to become a world-class university.
