Sharing Photos of Female Students in Group Chat
"Evaluating Appearance and Making Sexual Harassment Remarks"
Reports have been received that male students from two high schools in the Incheon area made sexually harassing remarks by posting photos of female students and celebrities in an online group chat, prompting the education authorities to launch an investigation.
According to Yonhap News on the 11th, the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is verifying the facts related to the report and is checking whether there are additional victims and perpetrators, as well as the exact circumstances. Earlier, a female student identified as A from a high school in Incheon reported to the school on the 7th that she had been sexually harassed in an online group chat. This was subsequently reported to the 117 School Violence Reporting Center and the city education office.
As of the current investigation results, the city education office confirmed that six male students from two high schools in the Incheon area shared photos of female students and celebrities in a group chat around March to April. It is known that A claimed these male students sexually harassed her by evaluating appearances based on these photos.
It has been reported that about 20 male and female students from the same middle school were members of the chat room. A representative from the city education office told Yonhap News, "It appears that sexually harassing remarks were included during the process of posting photos and evaluating appearances," adding, "We are verifying the facts."
