MOU Signing Scheduled at Summit Following Official Welcome Ceremony
President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife Kim Keon-hee are boarding Air Force One at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on the 10th, greeting as they depart for visits to three Central Asian countries: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
President Yoon Suk-yeol arrived in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, on the 10th (local time) to begin his tour of three Central Asian countries.
This tour starts with Turkmenistan and continues with visits to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Through this tour, President Yoon aims to strengthen the cooperative foundation with the three Central Asian countries that possess key minerals, while actively supporting Korean companies operating in Central Asia to secure orders.
On the same day, after attending the official welcoming ceremony, he is scheduled to hold a summit meeting with President Serdar Berdimuhamedow and sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) focused on expanding cooperation.
Turkmenistan is the world's fourth-largest natural gas holder, and based on the mutually beneficial partnership established in 2008, South Korea will promote solid cooperation in the energy and plant sectors. Specific measures to expand the entry of domestic companies in the energy plant sector will also be discussed.
President Yoon and his wife, Kim Keon-hee, will attend a state banquet hosted by President Berdimuhamedow that evening.
The next morning, President Yoon will deliver a keynote speech at a business forum attended by businesspeople from both countries and have a friendly luncheon with former President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the father of the current president and the supreme leader of Turkmenistan as well as chairman of the People's Council.
Meanwhile, Central Asia is an emerging strategic hub rapidly rising in the global market, and these three countries were previously visited by former Presidents Park Geun-hye and Moon Jae-in for summit meetings and state visits.
