Bid Announcement for Construction Company for Expansion and Renovation of 20-Year Temporary Station 'Cheonan Station'

The expansion and reconstruction project of Cheonan Station, which has carried the stigma of being a temporary station for 20 years, has accelerated as the bidding announcement for selecting the construction company has been initiated.

Cheonan City announced on the 3rd that the Korea Rail Network Authority, the entrusted agency for the Cheonan Station expansion and reconstruction project, has issued a bidding announcement for selecting the construction company.

The city plans to invest a total project cost of 112 billion KRW to expand and reconstruct Cheonan Station at 239 Daeheung-ro, with a total floor area of 15,555㎡, aiming for completion in 2027.

This project involves rebuilding the existing 5,512㎡ area and expanding by 10,043㎡, effectively constructing an integrated station building at a level equivalent to new construction. The construction period is approximately 37 months, and the project is entrusted to the Korea Rail Network Authority for implementation.

The bidding application for the construction company requires submission of pre-qualification (PQ) documents by the 19th, with price proposals accepted until the 17th of next month, followed by bid opening.

Previously, the city signed a consignment agreement with the Korea Rail Network Authority in November 2018 and began design work in September 2019. However, the design was halted due to a feasibility re-investigation of the Cheonan?Cheongju Airport railway and resumed in January 2022, with the design plan finalized after a final report meeting in November last year.

During this period, the city completed all administrative procedures including building permits, implementation plan approvals, traffic impact assessments, and structural safety reviews. The Korea Rail Network Authority proceeded with related procedures such as contracts and routine audits for design and construction company selection.

Mayor Park Sang-don stated, “We will actively strive to revitalize the old downtown area along with the recently officially announced GTX-C Cheonan extension project, which is a long-cherished project of Cheonan citizens?the expansion and reconstruction of Cheonan Station.”
