According to the PCC on that day, the Investigation Division 4 (Chief Prosecutor Lee Daehwan) has been questioning Mr. A, the head of the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters' investigation team, as a witness since the morning. They are reportedly asking about the circumstances of retrieving the case records of Corporal Chae's death and the process of re-examination.
The Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters received the investigation report from the Marine Corps investigation team, which was retrieved from the police by the military prosecution, and upon re-examination, reduced the number of main suspects from eight to two before re-referring the case to the police. Park Kyunghoon, the former acting head of the Investigation Headquarters who was responsible at the time, was summoned and investigated as a suspect on the 2nd of last month.
The PCC is investigating suspicions that there was external pressure during the process when the Marine Corps investigation team's results were transferred to the Gyeongbuk Police Agency on August 2nd last year and then retrieved.
