The Council, representing the 27 EU member states, stated in a press release that "six individuals and three entities have been additionally sanctioned in relation to sanctions evasion that could finance North Korea's illegal nuclear and ballistic missile programs, violations of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, and North Korea's military support for Russia's war in Ukraine."

The specific sanctions targets will be disclosed after publication in the EU Official Journal.

Those added to the sanctions list will have their assets frozen within the EU and will be banned from entering the 27 EU countries. EU citizens and entities are also prohibited from directly or indirectly providing funds or economic resources to the sanctioned individuals or entities.

The Council pointed out that North Korea has launched at least 22 ballistic missiles from January 1 to June 30 this year, calling it a "blatant violation of UNSC resolutions."

Regarding military support to Russia, the Council referenced the EU summit on March 22, where it urged preparations for additional sanctions against North Korea, Belarus, and Iran.
