Ulsan City Flirts with Youth... "Have a Ulsan Address" Campaign

Five Universities in Ulsan Hold 'Ulsan Through the Eyes of MZ' Meeting

Living Scholarships for 1,000 New Transfer Students

Ulsan City, in collaboration with five universities, is launching the "Relay Campaign for Continuing to Have a Ulsan Address" targeting university students and faculty members.

This initiative is being pursued in connection with local universities' competitiveness enhancement projects to foster participation in having a Ulsan address, aiming to address the serious issue of youth accounting for 56% of Ulsan's net population outflow over the past three years.

In fact, between 2021 and 2023, out of the 29,425 people who left Ulsan, 16,484 were young people.

The campaign will take place on May 27, 28, and 30 at University of Ulsan, Korea Polytechnic University Ulsan Campus, Ulsan College, Chunhae Health College, and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, according to each university's own plans.

The universities will operate photo zones using banners, placards, and flags produced by Ulsan City, display posters, and distribute souvenirs (fans) to students and faculty members.

On May 27, University of Ulsan will conduct interviews with recently transferred students and faculty members, with about 20 participants including faculty and the student council, and will set up a promotional booth and photo zone for the campaign.

Korea Polytechnic University Ulsan Campus will also have about 30 participants, including President Yoon Sungjong, faculty, and the student council, who will take promotional photos and participate in the Ulsan address campaign.

On the second day of the campaign, May 28, Ulsan College will have about 100 participants, including President Cho Hongrae, faculty, and the student council, along with Ulsan City Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Ahn Hyodae, who will participate in slogan chanting, photo sessions, and the filming of a dance challenge short-form video. The recorded video will be promoted through the social media channels of Ulsan City and the universities.

On the same day, Chunhae Health College will also continue promotional activities on the lawn of Haeak Hall, with about 100 university officials including President Kim Heejin participating.

On the final day, May 30, at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, about 40 participants including Vice President for Academic Affairs Lee Jaeyong and the student council will hold a large resident registration card presentation ceremony featuring the institute's mascot and a discussion titled "Ulsan as Seen by the MZ Generation." They will also promote the campaign by providing cup fruits in Ulsan cups and other various activities.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "As the youth population continues to decline, the universities have taken the initiative to plan and carry out this event. We hope that this relay event will spread the atmosphere of participating in having a Ulsan address and encourage many young people to choose Ulsan."

The 2024 Ulsan Regional University Competitiveness Enhancement Special Project provides a living scholarship of 200,000 KRW upon transfer and 100,000 KRW after maintaining the address for six months to the first 1,000 university students who transferred to Ulsan after January 1, 2024. In the first round of applications in April, 754 students applied, and the second round will take place in October.
