"If Not Actively Addressed, Export Will Face Difficulties"
It has been suggested that proactive measures should be taken to address the mandatory halal certification in Indonesia to support Chungnam's export routes.
The Chungnam Research Institute held a seminar on the 23rd under the theme "Strategies to Prepare for Mandatory Halal Certification in Indonesia."
According to the institute, Indonesia will implement mandatory halal certification starting this October. The scope of mandatory halal certification will gradually expand to include food and beverages, cosmetics, clothing, office supplies, and more.
The province is increasing trade with new southern regions such as ASEAN, India, and the Middle East. In particular, last year, Chungnam's kimchi exports exceeded 200 million dollars, showing a growth rate of over 60% in the Indonesian market, highlighting the need for active response to the mandatory halal certification.
Dr. Hyunseong Lee of the Korea Food Research Institute stated, "The scope of Indonesia's mandatory halal certification is gradually expanding and is expected to influence other Islamic countries as well. If we fail to actively respond to Indonesia's policy, Chungnam's exports are likely to face difficulties."
He added, "It is essential to promote domestic halal certification agencies actively and implement related policies so that local exporters can obtain Indonesia's official halal certification in a timely manner."
Dr. Wonpyo Hong of the Chungnam Research Institute said, "We will assist and cooperate to ensure that Chungnam-based companies do not face any setbacks in exporting to Islamic countries."
