I have always thought that I should be of some help to my students, who are the seeds that will lead the medical field in the future," and added, "I hope Yeungnam University will continue to develop and that my support will help my students achieve their dreams. Even from afar, I will always cheer for Yeungnam University."

In response, President Choi Oechul said, "Professor Song has been a crucial foundation for what Yeungnam University College of Medicine is today. We are already grateful that he continues to support the university and his students quietly even after retirement, and I sincerely thank him, as president, for making such a generous donation," adding, "We will do our utmost so that students, encouraged by Professor Song's support, can study in a better environment and grow into talents who contribute to the common prosperity of the global community beyond Korea."

Professor Emeritus Song Gye-won dedicated himself to nurturing future generations for 23 years after his appointment in 1983. He contributed to the university's development by serving as Director of the Medical Library at the Medical Center, Director of the Clinical Medical Research Institute, Director of Yeungnam University Hospital from 1989 to 1991, and President and Vice President for Medical Affairs of Yeungnam University Medical Center from 1999 to 2001.

For his contributions to the advancement of the medical field, he received a Prime Minister's Commendation in 2006.

During his tenure, Professor Song made donations, and with this recent contribution of 100 million KRW to the development fund, he has become a member of Yeungnam University's high-value donor club, "Cheonma Honors."
