Cho Ho-kwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, Officially Launches 'Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters'

Choi Ho-gwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, announced the full-scale operation of the ‘2024 Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters’ by hanging the signboard at the opening ceremony held in the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room of the district office main building on the afternoon of the 14th.

At the opening ceremony, the headquarters chief (mayor), deputy chief (deputy mayor), controller (director of the Safety and Traffic Bureau), and 13 task forces attended. The district plans to enter a phased emergency duty system for five months from May 15 to October 15.

The district has continuously managed efforts to protect residents from flood and wind disasters by cleaning rainwater drains monthly and installing additional ones. It also inspected and maintained 574 flood-vulnerable facilities, including 28 construction sites, 30 road facilities, 11 underground parking lots, and 505 protruding structures. Furthermore, flood control facilities such as sluice gates and 육갑문 (23 locations), pump stations (8 locations), river embankments, and retention basins were inspected. To ensure rapid response, sandbags, pumps, and other flood control materials were pre-positioned, making every effort to create a safe Yeongdeungpo.

Choi Ho-gwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, “We must establish a faster and more systematic response system to prepare for the normalized abnormal climate,” and added, “The district will continue to actively respond so that residents can live their daily lives with peace of mind during the upcoming rainy season.”
