Real-time Monitoring and Sharing of Remote Site Safety Management Status at Sinhang and Gamcheon Port
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) has established and is operating a Safety Lounge on the first floor of its headquarters to monitor safety management at construction sites and the status of facility safety inspections.
At the Safety Lounge, CCTV installed at various construction sites within Busan Port managed by BPA are connected to allow real-time monitoring of safety activities on site, verification of structural construction quality, construction site environment such as dust dispersion, and complaints.
In emergency situations caused by adverse weather conditions (typhoons), heatwaves, etc., the occurrence of accidents can be immediately identified, and communication with the site can be made to promptly take measures for worker safety, such as stopping work.
Currently, three sites are connected to the Safety Lounge: the New Port North Container Hinterland Development Project, the Phase 2-6 Wharf Superstructure Construction, and the expansion of the general wharf at Gamcheon Port. The plan is to gradually expand to other construction sites.
Additionally, the Safety Lounge shares schedules such as safety inspection plans and special safety inspections for facilities under BPA’s jurisdiction, and to raise safety awareness among employees, it will introduce videos of safety accidents occurring in construction and excellent prevention cases.
Lee Sang-kwon, Head of BPA Construction Headquarters, said, “By operating the Safety Lounge, we will strengthen management and supervision functions by real-time monitoring and sharing of construction site situations to secure construction quality and promptly respond to emergencies.” He added, “Along with the Busan Port Authority Safety Education Center established last year, we expect to spread a safety culture by utilizing smart construction technology.”
