According to the Korean Embassy in Thailand and local media Khaosod on the 12th (local time), Thai police discovered the body of a Korean male tourist, Mr. A (34), inside a large black plastic container filled with cement at a reservoir in Pattaya the previous night.

According to Thai police, Mr. A entered Thailand on the 30th of last month. On the 7th, an unknown man called Mr. A’s mother, saying that Mr. A had discarded drugs causing them losses, and demanded a ransom of 3 million baht (about 110 million KRW), threatening that her son would be killed otherwise.

Mr. A’s mother immediately reported the case to the Korean Embassy in Thailand, which then requested cooperation from Thai police. Following this, the police formed an investigation team and traced Mr. A’s whereabouts, with a witness reporting that they last saw him on the 2nd at a club in the Huai Kwang area of Thailand.

The police reviewed CCTV footage around the club and found that at around 2 a.m. on the 3rd, two Koreans put Mr. A into a rental car and went to Pattaya, where they transferred to another pickup truck. They also discovered that they had rented accommodation near a reservoir in Pattaya.

Later, at around 9 p.m. on the 4th, the pickup truck left the lodging with a black object loaded in the cargo bed, parked near the reservoir for about an hour, and then returned to the lodging.

Consequently, the police deployed divers into the reservoir and found the body. Tracking CCTV footage, the police also confirmed that the group in the vehicle had purchased a plastic container and rope at a store beforehand.

Authorities have identified three Korean suspects, one of whom left Thailand on the 9th. The whereabouts of the remaining two have not been confirmed, and Thai police are currently tracking them down.
