Lee Gi-in Announces Candidacy for Reform New Party Leader... "Will Stop the Unfavorable Competition Between Democratic Party and People Power Party"

Lee Gi-in, Supreme Council Member of the Reform New Party, declared his candidacy for party leader on the 26th.

On the same day, he held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and said, "I will become a party leader who has no shame under the sky, who stands firm against any threats and oppression, and who makes President Yoon Seok-yeol and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung step back."

He also emphasized the restoration of reform conservatism in the local elections to be held in 2026, saying, "The miracle created with Lee Jun-seok in Dongtan will be achieved nationwide."

He stated, "The Democratic Party claims to be progressive but is an elitist aristocratic party centered in the metropolitan area, and the People Power Party claims to be conservative but is not truly conservative. I believe the path the Reform New Party should take is not progressive or conservative, but a party of freedom.

He declared, "While respecting President Roh Moo-hyun, who loved the common people and ordinary citizens, I firmly oppose the methods of the Democratic Party and the People Power Party that destroy individual freedom. I will plant the flag of freedom in the place of the fallen conservatism and stop the tiresome unfavorable competition between the Democratic Party and the People Power Party."

He raised his voice, saying, "I will protect the common sense and wisdom of ordinary people in the Republic of Korea, and if someone is committing unjust ideological violence using the people's taxes, I will chase them to the ends of the earth and root them out. I will ensure that the taxpayers' hard-earned money is properly used for the desperate people."
