The steps taken by local governments to oversee policies for spreading anti-corruption and integrity culture in the public sector have become more active. The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, which evaluates the comprehensive integrity level annually for local governments and public institutions, announced the basic plan for this year's public institution comprehensive integrity evaluation last month and has recently been conducting workshops for the institutions subject to this year's evaluation.
Accordingly, each district office in Seoul, which is subject to the evaluation, is putting effort into rooting anti-corruption and integrity culture in the public sector through integrity meetings, campaigns, events, and aiming to receive the highest grade in the evaluation.
On the 19th, Guro-gu in Seoul will hold an 'Integrity Leader Meeting' at the Largo Ville Opera Hall in Ganghwa-do for senior officials of the district. The purpose is to create a fair and honest Guro-gu by encouraging communication and empathy among employees through the exemplary leadership of senior officials. District head Moon Heon-il and other senior officials will read an integrity practice pledge and discuss ways to improve organizational issues through group discussions aimed at enhancing integrity among executives during the meeting.
On the 16th, Geumcheon-gu conducted a joint labor-management 'Integrity Organizational Culture Innovation Campaign,' where district head Yoo Seong-hoon took on the role of a barista for a day, serving coffee to employees as encouragement. That morning, Yoo transformed into a barista at the 'Geumcheon Integrity Coffee Truck,' wearing an apron. Geumcheon-gu public officials' union executives and employees held placards with integrity slogans during the campaign.
Seongdong-gu recently established an anti-corruption integrity Seongdong promotion plan and built an 'Integrity Triangle' to eliminate corruption vulnerabilities and strengthen an honest organizational culture.
The 'Integrity Triangle' consists of strengthening an anti-corruption system that prevents corruption proactively, activating a reporting system that responds to corruption situations, and participatory integrity policies that lead to the improvement of all employees' integrity mindset.
Additionally, to enhance employees' ability to respond to corruption, biannual simulated corruption reporting drills are regularly conducted to enable skillful responses such as appropriate reporting when faced with actual corruption situations. On the 29th of this month, a 'Integrity Concert' will also be held where employees and residents will reaffirm their commitment to practicing integrity together.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission evaluates and announces the comprehensive integrity level at the end of each year, and this year the number of target institutions has significantly increased to 718 from 629 last year.
