Law: "Risk of Escape Present"
Conservative YouTuber Kim Sang-jin, who was indicted on charges of threatening President Yoon Suk-yeol and others during his tenure as head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 18th, Judge Jeong Jae-yong of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 21 sentenced Kim, who was charged with threats and assault, to one year in prison. The court ordered Kim to be detained in court, citing "risk of flight."
Kim is accused of making threatening broadcasts 14 times at the residences of then Seoul Central District Prosecutor General Yoon Suk-yeol, former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, lawmakers Woo Won-shik and Seo Young-kyo, and JTBC President Sohn Suk-hee, while operating the YouTube account ‘Sangjin Ajae’ for several months starting January 2019.
Additionally, at the end of April 2019, when the prosecution was scheduled to decide on the suspension of former President Park Geun-hye’s sentence, Kim reportedly threatened by broadcasting on YouTube in front of then Prosecutor General Yoon’s house, saying things like “I know all the vehicle numbers.”
Although the court issued an arrest warrant and Kim was detained, he was released pending trial after his request for a detention review was accepted.
