Yongin City to Hold Street Festival at Singal Intersection Transformed by Urban Regeneration

On the 27th, held around Museum Art Street and Singalcheon area

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 15th that it will hold the 'Singal Intersection Street Festival' on the 27th at Singal Intersection in Giheung-gu, which has been newly renovated through an urban regeneration project.

Since being selected in 2020 for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's urban regeneration project competition, 51.4 billion KRW has been invested in the Singal Intersection area to improve housing, living conditions, and commercial districts.

The festival will be centered around the 'Museum Art Street,' created by removing the existing roadside parking lots and expanding the sidewalks along Singal-ro 58beon-gil in front of the Singal-dong Administrative Welfare Center. Residents and merchants will directly participate in planning the event and setting up booths here.

Experience booths will offer tastings of Singal’s specialty products such as lemonade and candied walnuts, as well as a stamp tour where visitors fill out a village map by visiting various spots throughout the festival area. A marketplace selling merchants’ goods will also be held. At the booth for 'Singal Makgeolli (tentative name),' developed jointly by local makgeolli producer Ato Brewery and residents and scheduled for official release in the second half of the year, visitors can participate in a makgeolli brewing experience using steamed rice.

Performances will include the Lion Mask Dance by the Gugak Inside team, selected through a resident proposal contest, exhibitions of works by members of the Singal-dong Resident Autonomy Center and cooperative members, as well as traditional pungmul (folk percussion) and dance performances prepared by residents. At the 'Smart Urban Regeneration' booth, visitors can experience various smart technologies introduced as part of the Singal Intersection urban regeneration project.

An AI virtual experience device for seniors will also be showcased. This device offers eight virtual reality contents such as catch ball, fruit carrying, and meteor avoidance, stimulating brain nerves to train muscles and improve cognitive functions.

Various experience booths will also be set up along Singalcheon Stream. Representative activities include 'Singal 5 Jam,' which features board games like word puzzles and spatula quizzes themed around Singal Intersection and Singalcheon Stream; a flea market where local young merchants sell their products directly; and a 'One-Day Craft Experience Class' run free of charge by craft artists.

The city’s Animal Protection Center will set up a separate booth to promote a campaign for protecting abandoned animals, and a 'Joayang Store' will sell products featuring the city’s character 'Joayang.'
