Largest Single-City Scale... Policy Sharing Through Forum
From Guaranteed Income and Seoul Run to Great Hangang Initiative
Bruce Harrell, Seattle's first Asian American mayor, will lead a large economic delegation of about 70 people to visit Seoul on the 15th. Mayor Harrell previously visited Seoul in June last year and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in entrepreneurship and environmental sectors with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon.
According to Seoul City on the 14th, this program was arranged at Seattle's request to learn about Seoul's major urban policies and expertise. As part of the 'International Leadership Mission' program organized by the Seattle Economic Development Corporation and the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, this economic delegation visiting Seoul is the largest ever.
With 67 global leaders from government, business, and academia visiting Seoul at once, Seoul City will also warmly welcome them by having policy experts in urban policy and development, led by Acting Administrative Deputy Mayor Kim Sang-han, share their policy know-how.
The economic delegation consists of government officials from the Washington State Legislature, Seattle and Tacoma Port Authorities, King and Snohomish Counties, Bellevue City, as well as key organizations such as the Seattle Economic Development Corporation and the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, major companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, T-Mobile, and various representatives from the University of Washington and Washington State University.
Seattle is the largest city in Washington State, where the Korean population has grown the third most nationwide over the past decade. It is a cutting-edge industrial city home to global companies such as Microsoft and Amazon in IT, as well as Boeing in the aerospace sector. In March this year, Seattle announced the 'One Seattle Plan,' seeking policies that support the vulnerable and promote growth. The comprehensive 'One Seattle Plan' serves as a milestone presenting the vision and growth and investment sectors for the Seattle community over the next 20 years and beyond, aiming to create a more equitable, livable, sustainable, and resilient Seattle.
For the 'Seattle Economic Delegation' visiting Seoul, Seoul City will hold a session on the 15th at 11 a.m. in the multipurpose hall of Seoul City Hall to introduce and share opinions on representative policies of the city of accompanying charm as a package. Discussions will cover ▲Guaranteed Income ▲Seoul Run ▲Climate Companion Card ▲Birth Support Seoul ▲Wrist Doctor 9988 ▲Great Han River Project ▲Green Ecological Urban and Garden City ▲Creative Industry Promotion ▲Autonomous Bus, among others.
Additionally, Seoul will introduce various international events scheduled for the second half of the year, including the 2024 Seoul International Guaranteed Income Forum, the global startup festival Try Everything 2024, and Seoul Smart Life Week. Both cities aim to continue exchanges to strengthen cooperation by sector so that practical and tangible policies benefit citizens of both cities.
Acting Administrative Deputy Mayor Kim Sang-han stated, "With the visit of the large Seattle economic delegation, I believe we have laid the groundwork to deepen friendship and cooperation between the two cities across various policy fields including economy and culture." He added, "Especially since we share the 'same goal' of accompanying the socially vulnerable and creating a livable city that embraces its citizens, I expect that continuous and close cooperation will generate synergy."
