Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that although the traffic control for the '18th Yeouido Spring Flower Festival' has ended, pedestrian safety management will be extended until the 10th to allow visitors to fully enjoy the spring flowers.
The district will continue pedestrian safety measures by deploying about 100 safety personnel daily until 10 PM on the 10th. This is a measure to ensure the safety of visitors who came to Yeouiseo-ro to enjoy the final cherry blossom ending due to the later-than-expected blooming.
Previously, the district ended traffic control on the Yeouiseo-ro cherry blossom road at 2 PM on the 8th. According to on-site counters, the total number of visitors was about 3.1 million. Despite the delayed cherry blossom blooming, this number increased by 1 million compared to last year.
The influx of visitors was diverse. From Asian tourists to those from Europe and the United States, many countries visited the 'Yeouido Spring Flower Festival.' Residents from all over the country, foreign exchange students, and visitors from Jeju Island who flew in also came to enjoy the spring flowers.
With the traffic control extended from the original 10 PM on the 4th to 2 PM on the 8th, a total of 1.4 million spring outing visitors enjoyed the Yeouido spring flowers over the weekend of the 6th and 7th.
The district analyzed that the 'Spring Flower Picnic' theme with a campnic (camping and picnic) concept appealed to many visitors including the MZ generation, foreign tourists, and exchange students.
Also, about 1,800 cherry blossom trees, photo zones, pop-up gardens, and the 'Yeongdeungpo Art Cube' where visitors could see artworks by local artists attracted many young visitors.
In particular, the use of night lighting to highlight the spring flowers at night earned the festival the reputation of being the 'original spring flower festival of Yeongdeungpo.'
The 'Spring Flower Companion Barrier-Free Tourism Tour' for visually impaired visitors also touched many hearts. It was the first attempt in Seoul to allow visually impaired people to enjoy the spring flower festival through hearing and touch with the help of professional guides.

Measures to prevent safety accidents using artificial intelligence (AI)-applied crowd detection systems, drones, and fixed closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) also stood out. In fact, the district detected crowd congestion around Yeouinaru Station and immediately broadcast announcements through speakers.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “Despite the late cherry blossom blooming, I deeply thank the many visitors and residents who enjoyed the festival safely and orderly,” and added, “We will do our best every year to make the ‘Yeouido Spring Flower Festival’ a flower festival that represents not only the nation but the world with distinctive programs and themes.”
