Yeongyang-gun Women's Association Council, 'Preparing Birthday Meals for Elderly Living Alone'

Hosted by Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, and organized by the Yeongyang-gun District Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association, affiliated with the Yeongyang-gun Women's Association Council (President Lee Ok-hwa), the "Setting Birthday Tables for Elderly Living Alone" project took place on the 2nd at the multipurpose welfare center kitchen.

The Yeongyang County District Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Society, affiliated with the Yeongyang County Women's Association, implementing the "Setting Up Birthday Tables for Elderly Living Alone" program.

Marking its 10th year since inception, the "Setting Birthday Tables for Elderly Living Alone" project is conducted quarterly for about 40 elderly individuals living alone, aiming to alleviate emotional isolation among vulnerable seniors and prevent solitary deaths.

Members of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association prepared birthday foods such as seaweed soup, japchae, bulgogi, seasoned vegetables, rice cakes, and fruits, personally visiting the households to set the tables, celebrate the birthdays, and wish for their health.

Park Jeong-sook, president of the Yeongyang-gun District Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association, which organized the event, said, "I feel rewarded seeing the elderly who spend their birthdays alone happy to receive the birthday tables," adding, "I hope they forget their loneliness and have a warm day, at least for today."

Governor Oh Do-chang expressed, "I am grateful to the Yeongyang-gun District Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association for always taking the lead in practicing love for neighbors, and we will continue to do our best to create a Yeongyang-gun where no neighbors are left out and everyone is happy."
