Russian President Vladimir Putin convened the Federal Security Service (FSB) and other agencies in the early hours of the 23rd (local time) to discuss countermeasures following the shooting terror attack at a Moscow concert hall the previous day.
According to the Kremlin, President Putin received reports on the evacuation and treatment of the injured during a meeting attended by heads of the FSB, the Federal Investigative Committee, federal special forces, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, who attended the meeting, told local media that President Putin "wished a speedy recovery to all and expressed gratitude to the doctors."
On the evening of the 22nd, at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in northwest Moscow, a large fire broke out following indiscriminate gunfire by armed assailants. Preliminary counts indicate at least 62 people were killed and more than 146 injured.
Russian authorities have labeled the incident as 'terrorism' and are pursuing the armed assailants.
Meanwhile, the Islamic extremist armed group Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack via Telegram, stating that IS fighters "attacked a large gathering held on the outskirts of Moscow."
