"Our Neighborhood Construction Site Supervisor Is Me"... Seocho-gu Recruiting Resident Participation Supervisors

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced that it will recruit 39 'Resident Participation Supervisors' by the 22nd, who will participate as representatives at local construction sites and oversee the progress.

The district selects residents with certain qualifications as 'Resident Participation Supervisors' to manage and supervise construction closely related to residents' daily lives, such as water and sewage installation and security lighting installation.

Resident Participation Supervisors communicate and supervise as representatives of nearby residents at construction sites where conflicts may arise due to noise, dust, illegal design changes, etc., ensuring local safety and enhancing administrative reliability.

Last year, a total of 101 resident supervisors participated to help promote safe construction.

This year, the district encourages participation from residents working in related fields by recruiting supervisors publicly at once for multiple construction projects. This aims to eliminate concerns that supervisors selected by recommendation for each individual project might result in formal supervision and to increase effectiveness by recruiting residents with expertise.

Also, the supervision frequency, which was at least once, will be increased up to three times to strengthen participation. Supervisors will visit the site 2 to 3 times during the construction period, monitor illegal or unfair acts during the construction process, request corrections, and convey local residents' opinions and difficulties to the district office.

Supervisors receive a daily allowance of 30,000 KRW per visit, and for additional supervisory activities, they are given 5 Seocho Coins, points usable at about 40 district-run facilities in the area. Those who wish will also receive invitations to major cultural events hosted by the district.

To become a supervisor, applicants must reside in the project location and meet one of the following: hold a national technical certificate related to the construction industry subject to supervision; have more than one year of experience in site management or supervision in the related industry; be a university professor under the Higher Education Act or an elementary/middle/high school teacher under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act with knowledge in the relevant construction field; or be a resident representative such as a Saemaul leader or women's association president in the area with knowledge in the relevant construction field.

Residents wishing to apply should check the project location, then submit the application form and related supporting documents to the respective community service center. The application must include the recommendation and signature of the local neighborhood leader (tongjang) of the construction site, and final selections will be notified individually.

Selected Resident Participation Supervisors will be appointed in April, receive job training, and participate as on-site supervisors according to the start time of each construction project.
