On the 28th (local time), at a roundtable held at the world's largest mobile telecommunications exhibition, Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, in Barcelona, Spain, CEO Hwang shared this information. ixi-GEN is a specialized conversational AI model created using LG Uplus's data based on the foundational technology 'ExaOne' developed by LG AI Research.

LG Uplus plans to expand ixi-GEN into business-to-business (B2B) services in the second half of the year. The goal is to provide services with improved accuracy in specific domains based on a small language model (sLLM). Chief Data Officer (CDO) Hwang Gyu-byeol stated, "We judged that commercializing sLLM in specific areas is better, so ixi-GEN will also take that form. Various versions of the model will be tailored to vertical (specialized) domains by learning LG Uplus's data and necessary data."

Furthermore, CDO Hwang mentioned that they recently invested 10 billion KRW in FortyTwoMaru to further advance the sLLM for strengthening business competitiveness. He said, "We invested because FortyTwoMaru is attractive in improving the accuracy of large language models (LLM). There will be many areas for joint development, and we will be able to expand into safe AI utilization as well."

CDO Hwang added, "The concrete development direction is to build personalized mobile agents through ixi-GEN, media agents based on IPTV, and work agents that assist internal company tasks and are used in B2B."

CEO Hwang Hyun-sik also revealed plans to continuously increase collaboration related to AI business. He said, "FortyTwoMaru, which we recently invested in, has solid technology for applying AI. We plan to make continuous investments related to applied technologies." He added, "Among applied technologies, we will also continue to look for companies that handle foundational technologies and solutions."

As the AI business expands, LG Uplus plans to build a strong internal workforce. CEO Hwang said, "We have hired more technical personnel related to AI and have plans for further recruitment. In addition, we believe it is important for people actually working in the business to develop the capability to create services using AI, so we plan to transform internal personnel into AI talent." LG Uplus is conducting internal developer capability enhancement courses and is also holding a hackathon competition focused on AI this year.
