Providing a non-discriminatory educational environment and sports opportunities to foster diversity and potential
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) supports the dreams of multicultural students who are slowly but steadily moving toward their goals.
The district announced that it has signed an agreement titled "My Swing Supports You" with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Southern District and others to provide multicultural students with opportunities to participate in golf activities.
On the 29th, the district signed the "My Swing Supports You" agreement at the auditorium of Seoul Mullae Elementary School together with six organizations: the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Southern District, the Korea Youth Federation, the Youth Happiness Foundation, Dong-A Otsuka Co., Ltd., Vice & Co., Ltd., and the Korea SNAG Golf Association.
"My Swing Supports You" is a project aimed at expanding opportunities for multicultural students to participate in after-school sports activities so they can grow healthily as members of society.
Yeongdeungpo-gu, which has a high proportion of multicultural residents in Seoul, plans to help multicultural students demonstrate diversity and potential through participation in sports activities and to form harmonious and positive friendships. Furthermore, by providing fair opportunities for sports activities and a discrimination-free educational environment, the project seeks to alleviate social alienation and improve the quality of life for multicultural students.
Starting in March, the district plans to provide golf education to about 10 multicultural students by current and former professional golfers. The classes will be conducted using "SNAG Golf" to help students who have never been exposed to golf develop interest and enthusiasm. "SNAG Golf" is a program that uses plastic or rubber golf clubs, allowing students to safely, enjoyably, and easily get introduced to golf.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, "I hope that the 'My Swing Supports You' agreement will provide children from multicultural families with a new experience through golf and an opportunity to cultivate healthy bodies and emotions." He added, "We will continue to work closely with related organizations to support diverse students with rich experiences and activities."
