A fire broke out at around 10:44 a.m. on the 21st in the Incheon General Industrial Complex in Gajwa-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon.
As a result of the fire, a 119 rescue worker, Mr. A, inhaled smoke and was taken to the hospital. The lighting equipment manufacturing factory located in the industrial complex was completely burned down, and three other factories, including a plastic product manufacturing company, were also damaged by the fire.
The fire authorities issued Response Level 1, an alarm that mobilizes all personnel from the local fire station, at around 11:18 a.m., 34 minutes after the fire broke out. Subsequently, 154 firefighters and 61 pieces of equipment were deployed to extinguish the fire.
The fire department reported that the fire initially started between two factories and spread to nearby businesses. They are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage.
There were over 30 related reports received due to thick black smoke and a pungent smell rising from the accident area. Incheon City and Seo-gu sent disaster safety messages notifying residents of the fire, advising, "Since a large amount of smoke has been generated, nearby residents should refrain from going outside and take precautions for their safety."
It was confirmed that all these factories were closed for the holiday on that day, so there were no workers present.
