Leading the Discovery of Vulnerable Households in Welfare Blind Spots by Direct Fieldwork in Housing-Disadvantaged Areas... Dedicated Staff Selection Until January 17, Full-Scale Activities Starting in February
"Do you happen to know any neighbors in need? If you do, please let us know!"
There is a voice breaking through the narrow alleys and the biting cold winter wind.
Seongdong-gu (District Mayor Jung Won-oh)'s 'Crisis Household Thorough Discovery Team' consists of dedicated personnel leading the effort to identify households in crisis that fall within welfare blind spots.
Thanks to their passion as they go around every corner of the neighborhood daily, residents' interest has been increasing every year. Mr. A, who runs a real estate business, said, "It is not easy to find and check on neighbors in need. I am truly grateful that there are people who go out themselves to find such individuals and strive to help them," expressing his appreciation to the Crisis Household Discovery Team.
The Crisis Household Thorough Discovery Team was first formed in February 2022 and plays a crucial role in early detection of households at risk of welfare blind spots and solitary deaths. This year, applications were accepted from January 10 to 17, and four newly selected dedicated personnel will begin full-scale activities starting in February.
In cooperation with social welfare officers at each community service center, they will carry out activities including ▲ visiting and confirming residence of investigation targets in the welfare blind spot discovery system ▲ on-site verification of Smart Care recipients ▲ visits for welfare blind spot discovery and investigation ▲ support for operating human safety nets at the community level ▲ and welfare blind spot discovery activities focusing on vulnerable residential areas such as semi-basements and goshiwon (small dormitory rooms), as well as daily life businesses like real estate agencies and pharmacies.
The activities of the Thorough Discovery Team have also received excellent external evaluations. In November last year, they were selected as the top institution in the 'Senior Check-in Field' at the 1st Government Innovation Evaluation jointly hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Institute of Public Administration. The formation of neighbor networks where residents care for residents and the establishment of a dense human safety net through public-private cooperation were highly praised.
District Mayor Jung Won-oh stated, "To create a Seongdong where everyone is happy without exclusion, it is most important to discover and support blind spots where help does not reach. The role of the Crisis Household Thorough Discovery Team, which carefully watches over the surroundings in advance, is very significant," and added, "We will continue to do our best to build a flawless and dense welfare safety net."
